Micron NAND Flash Memory Fabrication Facility, Singapore, 2013, Finance of $463 Million for $4 Billion Project
A 255,000 square foot expansion to facilitate implementation of 3D NAND production at Micron’s Singapore facility, this transaction involved – for the first time ever on manufacturing loan – an Ex-Im Bank guarantee of a Capital Market issuance, delivering finance at a cost of capital of around 2%. Transaction managed previously sensitive, semiconductor sector issues, marking return of Ex-Im Bank financing in the sector, which totaled $1.6 billion in 2013 and 2014.
Emirates Aluminum (EMAL) Smelter Project, United Arab Emirates, 2013 Phase 1 Completion, Phase II Expansion, Finance of $556 Million for $10.2 Billion Project
One of the largest single site aluminum smelters in the world with annual production of 1.3 million metric tons and winner of multiple Deal of the Year Awards, the Mubadala sponsored EMAL Project involved participation from ECA’s (US Ex-Im, Hermes and Coface), commercial lenders, and Islamic financiers. Phase 2 financing involved arrangements to coordinate Phase 1 financing with different lender group and management of release of completion guarantee of Phase 2.
