Q-Chem II Petrochemical Project, Qatar, 2005, $263 Million Financing for $1.46 Billion Project
An expansion of the Q Chem I Project, the 695,000 metric ton per year Q-Chem II facility required a complex set of arrangements to accommodate sharing of a 1.3 million metric ton ethylene cracker and other facilities shared with Q-Chem I, financed on a limited recourse basis by a different lending group. Completion guarantees, feedstock support, and off-take sales arrangements were negotiated to manage pre- and post-completion risks.
Sadara Refinery & Petrochemical Project, Saudi Arabia, 2014, $5 billion Finance for $20 billion Project
The largest petrochemical financing ever, U.S. Ex-Im Bank’s largest loan ever, and winner of multiple Deal of the Year Awards, Sadara is comprised of 26 manufacturing units and will have production capacity 3 million tons per year. Sponsored by Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical, the $10.5 billion international financing addressed completion, feedstock, sales, and other risks and supplemented a $2 billion sukuk Islamic bond financing.
